We welcome all our members to the start of the new school year. Teachers in Nottingham face some extraordinary challenges in the coming months and being a member of a strong union will be more important than ever.
The NUT has a great history of fighting on behalf of teachers and Education, but if we are to succeed in resisting the attacks on your pay and working conditions we must all contribute to making our union stronger.
For years, most union members have been content to leave their national and local representatives to negotiate on their behalf. In a climate of national and local agreements with reasonably benign employers this worked fairly well, but those days are changing fast. Unless we succeed in resisting changes, it is likely that most teachers will soon find themselves negotiating pay and conditions at a school level.
The Pensions strike on 30th June demonstrated the determination of teachers to fight. That campaign will continue this term and we will need your active support.
In Nottingham the extra challenges of the Workplace Parking Levy and holiday pattern changes will need strong resistance too.
